Midnight rainbow cardigan
This cardigan is an unusual knitting project since it involves a couple of crafting techniques that are not knitting; sewing (by hand and machine), steeking and applying ribbons, plus some optional crochet.
It starts out with a normal top-down in the round procedure, working raglan increases, separating sleeves and finishing the body. Before sleeves are added the cardigan is blocked, reinforced, steeked and a zipper and body ribbons are applied. Then we head for sleeve island and finish by applying the sleeve ribbons.
Apart from yarn you need polyester (7mm / 1/4 in) ribbons and a zipper (55-65cm / 22-26 in).
Before applying the ribbons circumference is very flexible, but afterwards it’s firm, so try it on often while working on ribbons. This also means size selection is fairly flexible, at least from waist size.
The knitting part of this cardigan is easy, so if you like how it looks with the mesh but are intimidated by multi-crafting, it will also make a nice airy knit cardigan without the ribbons.
