This interesting beanie design is reminiscent of the austral summer sun beaming down all day and all night in the far southern reaches of Antarctica. The braid detail and the two yarns that are carried throughout the colourwork design give it extra warmth and structure. The crown has a lovely sunburst design. This hat is endlessly customisable by just changing the yarn colors, and by the way you decide to adorn the top.

Pattern Notes
This hat is knitted in the round from the brim up. After the cast on, one of two Latvian braids are worked and then an easy colourwork section for the body. After the second Latvian braid, a 12-stitch repeated chart forms the crown. One, two or even three tassels can be made up from the leftover yarn; or a pom-pom.

Requires 1 skein each of 3 colours. The hat can also be knitted in two colours: 1 skein each of 2 colours. Pattern Level: Intermediate.

Sized for adults. One size fits most. Finished hat circumference: approximately 20 inches / 52 cm. Fits 20-23 inches / 52-58 cm.

Techniques required: knitting in the round, Latvian Braid, 1x1 colourwork in stockinette stitch, k2tog, ssk, reading charts.
