Midsummer night Socks
This is a cuff down sortie sock pattern with a picot cuff top, beautiful but simple lace on top of the foot, and slipped stitch heel flap. Midsummer night socks are one of the patterns from Summer Sock Collection 2020. This collection is a story about Latvian Midsummer traditions. This design was inspired by bonfires that can be seen in every countryside home on the night of June 23rd.
As soon as the sun sets, bonfires are lit and they should be kept burning until the sun rises the next morning. Sometimes barrels of tar, raised on tall poles, are lit on hillsides, so they can be seen from afar. The fire is said to purify, promote health and fertility, and drive away evil. People gather around the fires, singing, dancing, eating, and drinking. Later in the night, couples holding hands leap across the fire, young ones while the flames are still high, older ones when they have died down. People save their wreaths from year to year and at some point in the night, they toss the old, dried ones into the fire, meditating briefly upon the year gone by.
