Mijas
The day I visited Mijas* (see bottom of my note) I was totally taken back by the color of the sky. I was standing in a small cobblestone square surrounded by whitewashed houses, gazing towards the ocean. The sky had put on the palest color of blue, shaded by turquouise and white, The village was so lovely, a beautiful place on earth. With the inspiration from the sky and the cobblestones the Mijas tank was brought to life!
The Mijas top is feminine, flattering and gives a stunning result compared to the effort! The cable-pattern looks far more intriquate than the work put into it.
Construction
The tank is worked in the round, and bottom-up. It is completely seamless. Finishing work is limited to blocking/weawing in of ends.
The fit
The fit is supposed to be tight! The top is made completely straight, as the cable pattern will stretch out where needed. If you want to add ease for bust you could work this part one needle size up. For best fit: choose a size a bit below your personal measurements. Sample is made with 1” of negative ease.
Sizes Finished bust-measurement: 31.5 - 33 - 34.5 - 36 - 38 - 39.5 - 41 - 42.5 - 44 - 46 - 47.25 - 49”. Full length 43cm/17”.
Gauge: tension is measured over cable-pattern: 30 sts/32 rows to 10x10cm/4x4”. The pattern explains how to make a swatch in pattern.
The pattern. The pattern is easy to follow with clear instructions to guide you through the knitting process. There are written instructions as well as a chart for the cable pattern. All measurements are given in cm’s as well as inches.
Knitting skills. The cable pattern looks far more elaborate than it is! The pattern is repetetive and easily memorized - and gives a great value compared to the effort. You should be able to follow a simple cable-pattern from written and/or charted instructions.
Abbreviations used are: k, p, k1tbl (knit 1 through backloop), p1tbl (purl 1 through backloop), pm and sm.
Mijas is situated in Andalusia, Spain. With it’s strategic situation (that I would describe as a shelf in the mountain-side) it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea from 428m above the sea level. From here you might see all the way to Gibraltar and the Atlas Mountains.
