This is a handsome scarf with a sophisticated lace pattern, set within a garter stitch border, that will compliment any outfit in your wardrobe. Milanese lace, a lovely old pattern originating in Italy, is a true lace, with pattern stitches occurring on both sides of the work.

The original pattern was written for a cashmere fingering which I have since discontinued. However, the pattern is very flexible and can accommodate a range of yarn weights, from lace to DK, with appropriate adjustment of the needle size. Just keep in mind that a heavier yarn will yield a coarser lace, with bigger holes and a bulkier fabric.

The yardage of the original yarn was 400 yds and I used it all to get a 52” long scarf. A skein with 440 or more yards per 100 grams should be plenty.
