Milefortlet
Under the emperor Hadrian (117–138 CE), the Romans built a wall to barricade off the “barbarians.” Now called Hadrian’s Wall, the edifice runs through Northumberland National Park and beyond. After the wall stops in Bowness, regularly spaced forts called milefortlets continued to protect the perimeter.
Like its namesake, this scarf intersperses a knit-and-purl checkered landscape with garter band towers.
