Milla Cardigan
SKILLS NEEDED Knit & purl, cast on, bind off, sew down hem with darning needle, pick up a few sts, knit in the round if you know how, if not knit flat the whole thing. Single crochet. Read a color chart.
This cardigan is knit sideways with purl side facing, which makes it look woven. It is an easy and fun way to knit.No difficult assembly. It can be knit from one cuff to the other in one piece, but since I don’t like to have so much fabric in my lap, I prefer to knit it from cuff to middle in 2 parts. That way, I have sts for the front band ready on the needle and there’s no need for picking up sts before knitting the band. Also you can change the size some, before joining the two sides. I started knitting these sideways sweaters with purl side out, about 35 years ago. I am totally hooked on all the possibilities it offers. It has given me a living as a knitter. Now I would be very glad if anyone would like to knit this pattern. The style flatters slim and large figures.
Main yarn used is Donegal Tweed, and as effect yarn there are a few yards of Gold Metallic and Ribbon, and 100 g off-white, 100% wool, in Light 11 Wpi yarn. I used Rauma yarn. Get it at Nordic Fiber Arts. But leftovers you might have are welcome in this style of knitting. Super for children’s sweaters, as well. This is a highly adaptable pattern.
