Mille-Feuille
An elegant shawlette designed for the regal Dr. Bedelia du Maurier.
Mille-Feuille is a crescent shaped shawlette worked from the top down. The lace edging is worked sideways after the stockinette body is completed, so there are only a few stitches to cast off at the end. The edging features optional beading using the crochet hook method. Instructions for the edging are both written and charted.
Materials:
- one skein DyeForWool Fingering Merino/Silk or 320 yards of fingering weight yarn
- 32” US 5 circular needle
- 0.75mm crochet hook (optional, for beading)
- 111 size 6/0 glass seed beads (optional)
- tapestry needle
- blocking pins
Skills needed: Knitting, purling, some experience with lace knitting. If you’re unfamiliar with the garter tab method for starting shawls, you can watch a demonstration video here. For instructions on adding beads with a crochet hook, see this video.
The Mille-Feuille pattern is inspired by the character Bedelia du Maurier as seen in NBC’s Hannibal. It is available individually for purchase or as part of the Edite Insolentes ebook.
