Millie is one of those Afghan designs that will be around forever. It’s an heirloom piece that never goes out of style and is easy to customize!
I was originally inspired from a photo of this classic afghan from the 1960s…after searching for the pattern for ages and coming up empty handed, I decided to design my own version using the Vintage Mile A Minute Edging for the center. You can see a wonderful online tutorial here with written instructions here.
The afghan is worked in a classic Mile-a-Minute fashion, center strips are completed in one color, while the main color wraps each center strip.
The strips are then joined with a simple single crochet to complete this classic design. A pop of color is added by working one full section of the Afghan in bright neon colors for a modern and fresh feel.
The great thing about Millie is that it can be customized to make ANY size afghan you want. From a newborn wrap all the way up to a king size bedspread.
Simply lengthen each strip and connect more and more until it is the desired size! This technique can also be adapted for garments, scarves, pillow covers, potholders, washcloths, and more! You really are only limited by your imagination.
Please note this is not just a pattern, it’s a booklet. It includes instructions for the afghan shown but also for the following sizes:
Newborn, baby, toddler, couch, throw/afghan, twin, full, queen, and king.
The booklet also includes patterns for a pillow, a scarf, washcloth, and headband.
