Millie Scarf
This pattern is named after my grandmother, for whom this scarf was originally knit. My mother suggested that I knit her a Christmas present, and I knew a simple, lacy scarf would be perfect. The idea for knitting with lace hankies originally came from the owner of my local yarn store – Sharon Ottenbreit of Golden Willow Natural Fiber. About a year ago, she started knitting a store sample of silk hankies and coloured mohair yarn. It looked beautiful, so I knew I had to try it.
The finished scarf is very stretchy, and can be blocked out to many different sizes. The silk is a spinning fiber, drafted out so as to be yarn-sized. There is no particular gauge because of this.
Included with the pattern are instructions on how to prepare and knit with unspun silk hankies, as well as the effects different colour schemes have on the pattern.
