„Minas Tirith“ is a fictional city and castle in J. R. R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth writings. It became the heavily fortified capital of Gondor in the second half of the Third Age. It’s famous landmarks are the White Tower and the White Tree, the symbol of Gondor which only blossoms when a king returns to Gondor.
The tree and its blossoms are symbolized in this beautiful asymmetric shawl. The shape reminded me of the cuneiform architecture of Gondor and so it became the namesake for the shawl.
Because of it’s asymmetric shape the shawl can be worn in different ways. The embossed leaves will be an absolutely eye catcher which can be supported by the application of some tassels.
Needed materials:
- approx. 700 meters (766 yds) of fingering weight yarn
- circular needle size 3 – 3,5 mm (US 3 - 4)
- stitch marker
- sewing needle
- scissors
For the tassels you should leave approx. 4 grams (0.14 oz) of yarn, alternatively you can choose a different yarn. The tassels as well as using beads are optional so I won’t explain the making-of. You will find plenty of instructions on the internet.
The pattern runs 6 pages, it contains only charts (no written pattern!) a diagramm and a link to a video-tutorial for the i-cord-bind-off.
My dear friend Wollboxi designed a very nice alternative finish for the shawl.
The pattern can be downloaded separately. For this finish I advise professional knowlegde inknitting. Please note the approximately yardage you need.
Because I did not knit this finish I do not take any guarantee for any potientally mistakes. But if you have questions, I wil help you as good as I can.
BITTE BEACHTEN! DIES IST DIE ENGLISCHE ANLEITUNG!!! DIE DEUTSCHE ANLEITUNG IST NICHT BEI RAVELRY ERHÄLTLICH!!!
