Mind Flayer is a toe-up slipped-stitch colourwork sock pattern with a faux heel flap and a standard wedge toe that can be worked to any leg height - ankle, mid-calf, or knee-high. This design was originally inspired by the insidious dark smoke monster from season 2 of the television show Stranger Things.

Mind Flayer is charted in 5 sizes: XS (S, M, L, XL), with an approximate foot circumference of 7 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches 18 (19, 20, 21.5, 23)cm. Leg sizes fit legs approximately 7.25 (7.5, 8, 8.5, 9) inches 18.5 (19, 20, 21.5, 23)cm at smallest point above the ankle. Optional calf shaping means leg circumference can be increased as much as needed. Leg size can also be adjusted by changing sock sizes during heel construction.

This pattern uses shadow wraps in the heel construction, which are especially useful when working with dark yarn.
