This boxy nautical design is suitable for girls and boys and is best worked with a high contrast in the colours. Bright turquoise and white or red and white work just as well as the navy.
With only two two colours the stranded colourwork is suitable for a novice, however the garment could be worked in stripes only. The sample is worked with the light colour as the main and a dark contrast; this could easily be reversed.
Larger sizes could be achieved by using a heavier yarn and larger needles.
