Mini Devonia
When I was working on the adult version of this cardigan, I felt strongly that I would work a similar cardigan for the little ones.
The design lends itself perfectly to adult sizes, as well as for the babies/toddlers.
(The adult version is tested, and it’s now on offer): https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/devonia-cardigan...
And here it is - a truly romantic cardigan for the little ones.
The Mini Devonia is tested by a group of talented testers (list of testers at the bottom of these notes).
Design
The shape of the cardigan is classic:
the upper body is shaped by raglan-increases, which ensures a great fit around the shoulders.
The lower body has a curved edge towards the fronts.
The sleeves are worked straight until the cuffs, where decreases are worked for a tighter-fitting cuff.
You may work any of the 2 versions:
- the buttoned, or the ruffled.
Construction:
Top-down and seamlessly.
The upper body is shaped by raglan-increases.
The curve of the lower body is shaped by bind-offs.
The sleeves are worked top-down and in-the-round.
Either you work the buttonband or the ruffle, both of these are worked around the entire neck/fronts/lower bottom in one piece
(worked from RS and in-the-round).
Sizes
Size 1. 9 months – 1 year: 49 cm/19.5” Size 2. 1 year - 18 months: 55 cm/21.5” Size 3. 2 - 3 years: 61 cm/24”
The above measurements are finished chest circumferences, when the cardigan is closed/buttoned.
Materials
Yarn: I recommend a fingering/sport weight yarn that knits up to gauge.
I used Sandnes Mini Alpaca, 1042 (light grey) to work the sample. This yarn comes in balls of 50 gr/1.76 oz and 150 m/164 yards. Of this specific yarn you will need approximately 450/550/675 m = 495/600/740 yards. The above yardage include what you will need to work the ruffle. If working the cardigan without the ruffle you will need 120/140/160 m = 140/155/175 yards less.
Needles size 3 mm/US2.5 (or size to obtain gauge).
Gauge
27 sts and 32-34 rows/rounds in broken-rib-pattern = 10 x 10 cm/4 x 4”
The pattern
The pattern is tested (list of testers further down).
There is a schematic.
The measurements are given in cm’s as well as in inches.
