Mini Knitty Monsters
These mini knitty monsters are ready to invade -err- join your home! These little monsters fit nicely into the palm of your hand and can go with you anywhere or hang out on your desk and watch you work. Tell it your hopes and dreams. Watch it somehow eat all your food in the night despite not having a mouth.
Gauge doesn’t matter. The size of your mini monster will depend on the size needle and yarn weight you use. My worsted monsters are knitted on US 3 DPNs are about 3.5” tall by 3” wide. My bulky (light bulky) monsters are knitted on US 6 needled are about 4” tall and 3.5” wide.
Not intended for small children due to the plastic safety eyes weighted bottoms. You’re welcome to make a kid-friendly version with sewn on eyes and no weighting! (They may fall over drunkenly though)
Skills needed:
Knit
KFB (knit front and back)
K2tog (knit 2 together)
Kitchener stitch OR 3 needle bind off (kitchener is recommended)
Materials needed:
Double pointed needles or long circular needles for magic loop. Choose a size at least 2-3 sizes smaller than what your yarn calls for to make sure the stuffing doesn’t peek through. I use US size 3 or 4 DPNs on my worsted monsters and US size 6 for my bulky monsters.
Yarn of your choice - you only need a small amount for these guys!
Safety eyes (or you can embroider eyes).
Stuffing (fiberfill or similar).
Something to weight their bottoms. I use aquarium gravel but dry beans, plastic pellets, or anything small and hefty will work.
Yarn needle.
Stitch marker.
Optional for Chibi Totoro: cocktail umbrella (can be found at party supply stores).
