Mini Newfoundland Mittens
This collection of mini Newfoundland mittens began on a whim one day when I asked myself, What if I cast on 22 stitches with a lightweight wool and made a mini trigger mitt? (a very popular mitten in Newfoundland). That mini trigger mitten was just about the cutest thing I ever saw! I then began playing with designs and colours (classic colour combinations inspired by the mittens my grandmother used to knit us, and vibrant colour combinations that were more my great-grandmother’s style) and it just snowballed from there. These mini mitts make great decorations, but would also make a great advent project!
Pattern includes instructions for a Classic Mitten and a Trigger Mitten, as well as right-hand and left-hand instructions for each!
Pattern includes over 30 charts to choose from!
Size: Classic Mitten height: approx. 4.25”
Trigger Mitten height: approx. 4.5”
Yarn: Briggs and Little Sport. Each mitten uses less than 20 yards (about 5g) each of MC (main colour) and CC (contrast colour)
Gauge: 8 sts x 8 rows = 1” in stockinette stitch after blocking
Recommended needle size: Set of four 2.75mm DPNs (double pointed needles)
Tip: Gauge and yarn weight is not particularly important. Knitting these mittens with fingering weight yarn on a size smaller needle also works wonderfully! Mittens will just be more mini!
Instructions are specifically written for DPNs, combining detailed written instruction and chart-reading.
