Mini octopus doll
The miniature octopus doll is a fun little stash-busting project you can make in a few hours. Despite its small size, the little octopus packs a lot of character and is a perfect comfort buddy or travelling companion.
Pattern notes: Written pattern with photos (11 pages)
The octopus head, body and limbs will be knitted separately. The head and body will be knitted top-down in the round using DPNs. The limbs are knitted as I-cords using two DPNs. The octopus will be assembled after felting.
Materials
Yarn: Fingering weight wool yarn (about 12 m/13 yards) in a color of your choice.
Needles: A set of size 2,5 mm (US 1.5) double-pointed needles
Other supplies:
A small amount of wool stuffing
A tapestry needle
Sewing needles and pins
Crochet hook (for pulling in yarn ends, f.e 2 mm, US size 4)
Seed beads (for attaching limbs and eyes).
Techniques used: knitting in the round on DPNs, knitting I-cord, increases, decreases, picking up stitches, simple embroidery.
Additional information: This octopus doll is meant to be knitted, stuffed and then felted using the washing machine. So gauge is not very important, just make sure your stitches are tight enough so the stuffing does not show through.
Finished size: The sample is approx. 5,5 cm/2 inches tall. You can easily scale them up by going up a needle size and using thicker yarn.
The pattern has been test-knitted and tech-edited.
