Mini Shawl Coasters
When I am designing, I crochet a lot of mini scarves and shawls while figuring out ideas and stitch patterns. Recently, I crocheted a mini shawl as part of my design process and it dawned on me that it would make a great coaster. So, I used a very easy stitch pattern and wrote the pattern so you could use any yarn weight.
The stitch pattern is an easy two-row repeat and when you reach your stopping point, determined by measuring, you add a simple final edging row.
You can crochet a couple coasters for yourself and keep them handy when you are crocheting or knitting, or make a couple for a great fiber friend or family member.
This pattern provides the instructions to crochet the mini shawl coaster and you can decide which yarn to use, what colors and how many colors you want to use, or if you want to hold two yarns together. The sky is pretty much the limit with this pattern, and you can use any yarn weight you choose.
Yarn required: about 25 yards (~12 grams) of DK weight yarn, or use equivalent amount of yarn of any weight you choose
Skills required: chain, slip stitch, double crochet
Skill level: Beginner--great project for learning and teaching, or easy and quick project for gifting for all skill levels
Best of all, this is a great way to use your leftover bits and balls of yarn from other projects. Use a cotton or cotton blend yarn if you want them to be absorbent, or use a wool or acrylic yarn if you just want to use them to prevent your tables from getting scuffed.
And, if you are super ambitious and have a shawl quantity of yarn, keep going and make yourself a shawl!
