I created this pattern because I was desperate and didn’t have enough time to learn how to crochet the other amazing skulls on Ravelry. As of 2018, I only knit. I didn’t have enough time to learn how to create holes for the eyes, and I didn’t have enough time to sew buttons for eyes. I used dimensional fabric paint to create the faces. Of course, I could sew black yarn to create the faces, but like I said, I didn’t have much time to do that to that many skulls. I had to create approximately 20 of these for “Faire Favors” to hand out as gifts to my Renaissance Faire guild members -- Danse Macabre. We dress like a parade of skeletons, playing songs with violins, drums, various horns and woodwinds, and Celtic harp (that’s my instrument), holding up signs reminding people that death could come at any moment (thanks to the plague, the many wars, famine, etc.). Skulls seemed appropriate.

“Faire Favors” tend to be hand-made pins/brooches, made annually, by regular members who participate in a guild of a Renaissance Faire. Usually, the faire favor is designed with the guild in mind. I designed these skulls to be safety pinned to a hat, or a vest/bodice. They can also be strung together as garland, or sewn to clothing, or whatever.

Yarn: Any acrylic brand that is white or off-white, weight: 4. The size of the skull depends on whether you are a loose or tight knitter. In general, they will fit within the palm of a small-to-medium sized hand. I was able to knit about 20 skulls within a few hours.
