I love shawls and shawlettes with a lace pattern but I always reach for a more substantial scarf when the weather gets cold. This is my attempt to combine the two.

Minley starts with pretty points and knots but moves up, through very open lace, into fisherman’s rib short rows. You may find that it a little slow at first but the extra stitches at the increase give it a better stretch. After row eight it knits up extremely quickly!

Minley is named after Minley Manor, a rather beautiful building in Hampshire. The pattern was put together in much the same way as the house – I started with an idea and then added bits until it seemed like it was finished! Like the house, it includes several very different approaches that combine to (hopefully) good effect.

I’ve listed the yarn for this pattern as Rowan Creative Focus Worsted but I’ve also tried it with Cascade 220 with great results. It should work with any worsted weight yarn that has a high enough wool content to block well.

A couple of people have messaged me asking for a better explanation of row 15, picking up stitches across multiple dropped yarnovers. I’ve now uploaded a video to demonstrate this, I hope it helps!

Also, there’s now a video for the decreases in rows 1-9 & 23-25. This shows the central decreases that form the spine up the centre of the points.

Let me know if either aren’t clear, or if there are other parts of the pattern that need a video!
