This pattern is worked in stockinette intarsia using a knitting chart. I have created 25 squares using the two knitting charts (12 “head squares” and 13 “blank squares”) to create a checkered blanket measuring about the size of a Full mattress (approx. 40” x 40”).

I used 6 skeins of Big Twist Value Yarn (2,280 yards in worsted weight) with 3 skeins of black, 2 skeins of white, and 1 skein of pink. I also wanted to add a border around the design without adding more intarsia threads. I added this border by picking up and knitting the appropriate number of stitches on each edge (32 stitches x 8 rows on the short edges and 40 stitches x 8 rows on the long edges).
