"Mino-Nomi" Reversible Hat
This is a fundraising pattern for my late brother, Mino (1971-2004).
This pattern was updated with the sewing up instructions at the end of the pattern and with other minor corrections in July 2015. (Ver. 2.1)
My husband who works in NYC needs a double-layered hat to keep his buzz cut head warm. Inspired by “Christopher” by Jane Richmond, I designed this “Mino-Nomi Reversible Hat.” The “Mino” side is knit in plain stockinette while the “Nomi” side is a broken rib, and they are “yin yang” in two colors. You will knit it in one piece starting from the top of one hat and ending with the top of the other. I present two options: “Mino-Nomi” (one side in stockinette and the other in rib) and “Mino-Mino” (both sides in stockinette).
Skills required: K, P, Ktbl, K2tog, Kfb, P2tog
Stated gauge is pre-blocked to ensure you have enough yardage.
Required yardage: About 200-250 yards in total (about the same yardage for MC & CC)
Finished Size: from the top of the head to the edge
Large: 8.5”
Medium: 8”
Small: 7.5”
** It is easily customized.
Please refer to the test knitters’ projects for more information regarding yardage, finished sizes, and fit.
All the proceeds of this pattern will be donated to the Minoru Hokari Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Australian National University. My late brother, Minoru Hokari (“Mino” 1971-2004) died of cancer at the age of 32. The scholarship fund supports young scholars who study Indigenous Australians through fieldwork. We are trying to fully fund it to achieve its perpetuity. Please help.
Please visit Being Connected with HOKARI MINORU (www.hokariminoru.org) to meet Mino.
