Just when you thought illusions couldn’t get more mind-boggling, I present a maze that disappears if you get too close.
Stand at the side and you can plainly see the maze. It takes a lot of concentration to follow the path from the edge to the centre. You are tempted to step forward to trace the path with your finger but, as soon as get within touching distance, the maze vanishes and you can only see narrow stripes.
Following the maze is difficult; the knitting is very easy.
The maze in the photos was made in DK yarn and used about 400 metres (440 yards) in each of two colours. It measures approximately 78 cm x 68 cm (31” x 27”), excluding the border. It could be made in any yarn but your choice of yarn might change the overall size.
This design was based on a previous Woolly Thoughts afghan design. The pattern for Amazement is available on Ravelry. The solution to the maze can be seen on the Woolly Thoughts web site.
