From the Intro: I was putting a cotton pad in the bin the other night when I realised it is probably not so great environmentally. Yes, the cotton pads will bio-degrade but there’s the plastic wrap too. So I went hunting for patterns, as us knitters do, and ended up testing and writing some out. Watch this space as I may do more, hence (part 1), being optimistic! Not only are these good for reducing your waste when used for your daily routine. They are also a good way to try out new stitches or techniques. Of course these are for anyone but I’ve done these 4 mini cloths as 2 simple but effective cloths for beginners and 2 cloths that introduce cables.
This set of 4 mini cleansing cloths takes approx 20g 10ply/worsted weight natural plant fibre yarn, I would suggest using cotton. I used Lily, Sugar’n Cream and Premier Home Cotton for these. Hemp, flax/linen or bamboo should work too. Wool would be too hairy and would felt unless superwashed. If using acrylics a smooth yarn like Paton’s Smoothie may work, but again I would not suggest using a hairy acrylic.
If you want to work in DK cotton then drop down to a 3.5mm needle size unless you are already a tight knitter. If you do this and want to increase the size slightly then for cloths 1, 3 and 4 cast on 4 extra stitches, for cloth 2 cast on 3 extra stitches and work an extra repeat of rows in each case.
If you spot a mistake or have a suggestion please let me know.
