Mira Cable Mittens
Errata:
-Note that on page 3, 2nd paragraph of the Hand Opening section, it has been partially changed to:
“…If you are on Row 2 or 4, continue in cable st pattern. If you are on Row 6 or 8, knit 2 more rounds in St st in established colors.”
This is done so that the stitches will not be too tight to be picked up later.
Please use coupon code XCable0119 for 50% off for the pattern. Promotion ends end of Sunday 1/13.
These winter mittens are both warm & versatile. There are hand openings for you to use your phone, search for keys..etc. The 2-color cables in bright colors are eye catching & extra-thick, but they can also be done with neutral colors for the guys.
The mittens are worked in the magic loop method (or DPNs if you wish), starting with a 2-color cast on, followed by corrugated ribbing along the wrist, then in the criss-cross cable pattern, & finished with a 2-color 3-needle bind off. Openings were created for the thumbs & hands with stitches picked up & worked after the cabling is done.
The size shown is a Small.
Difficulty Level: Intermediate
Sizes S (M, L) – to fit ~6.75” (7.5, 8.25)” length hands with average widths. Length is measured from base of palm to fingertips.
Materials, Tools, & Notions:
-Color 1 (C1): Lion Brand Yarns Pound of Love in Cherry #114 - 16 oz/454 g, 1020 yds/932 m.
-Color 2 (C2): Red Heart Super Saver Solids in Aran #0313 – 7 oz/198 g, 364 yds/333 m.
-29” Circular needle & DPNs in size US 8 or 5 mm.
-Cable needle (optional).
-Waste yarn, Tape Measure, Tapestry needle, Scissor, etc.
Notes:
Gauge: (in 2-color Stockinette St) 7 sts & 7 rows = 1” x 1”
Gauge: (in 2-color Cable St) 9.8 sts & 7 rows = 1” x 1”
Because the cables are a tight knit, it is recommended that the gauge can be a bit looser, rather than a bit tighter.
If you choose to work in DPNs, make sure all 22 sts of the cable pattern is on one needle only so that you can work unobstructed.
Instead of using a cable needle (CN), you can use another DPN.
