Mirabelle Cardigan
Mirabelle is a slouchy, cozy, and oh-so-cute cardigan featuring the perfect combination of simple garter stitch and beautiful sleeve detailing. Fun to knit and easy to wear, this FO is bound to be a wardrobe staple AND the subtle star of any outfit. The delicious texture on the sleeves reminds me of juicy, fresh plums! Bouncy, superwash sport weight merino wool yarn — I used Ewe So Sporty from Ewe Ewe Yarns — further enhances the inherent squishiness of garter stitch, and creates a soft, easy-to-care for garment. I designed this cardigan with 10 inches of positive ease, for an oversized look, but feel free to size down if you prefer a closer fit. My sample — in beige — was knit in size 2 on a 33.5” bust (10” of positive ease) with Ewe So Sporty in the colorway 92 “wheat”. The lovely chocolatey brown sample was knit by & pictured on my beautiful friend Ashley in size 1 on a 35” bust (4” of positive ease) using Ewe So Sporty in the colorway 95 “chocolate” (and isn’t that appropriate? It looks positively edible!). Click through the photos to see a full schematic.
Construction: The Mirabelle Cardigan is begun from the bottom hem and knit flat in one piece. V-neck decreases begin, and it is split into 3 pieces for the front right, front left, and back. Each of these pieces are worked separately up to the shoulders, and then they are joined at the shoulders with the 3-Needle Bind Off. The button band is picked up and worked in 2x2 ribbing. Sleeves are picked up along the armholes and worked in the round to the cuff.
Purchase of this pattern includes a deluxe version (with illustrations, full schematic, & more!), a print-friendly version, and a print-friendly version with large text for easy reading. Please note that both charted AND written instructions are available for the sleeve motif! :)
