One version of this shawl was my contribution for the July Phat Fiber Sample Box “Seaweed, Ships and Scalywags”.
The inspiration for this shawl comes from William Shakespeare’s “The Tempest”and J.W. Waterhouse’s 1916 painting, “Miranda”. I was struck by Miranda’s lack of a shawl in what had to be tempestuous weather. This shawl makes a great shoulder wrap, hip wrap, backwards hipster scarf and a wonderful head wrap, whether or not you have Titian hair.
The shawl is knit in garter stitch with I cord edging from a center triangle, then edged with a long wedge on the bottom edge and finally tapers to I cord ties with optional I cord fringe. The shawl can be further embellished by added beads. With simple lines and multidirectional, this shawl can be completed quickly, is well suited to multicolored or variegated yarns and makes a great chill chasing accessory.
This pattern includes 4 versions of the scarf:
Mini version which uses 41 grams, a little less than one skein, of Mini Mochi yarn
Mini Cotton which uses 81 grams of mercerized cotton (commercial equivalent Takhi Cotton Classic Lite)
Sock or fingering weight version which uses about 67 grams
Chunky version which uses about 200 grams chunky yarn
