Mireille Cardigan
This elegant and timeless cardigan features gently flaring cable panels for a graceful A-line shape, a beautifully embellished collar band, and long sleeves trimmed at the cuff with a simple motif. A versatile and easy-wearing design, it can be dressed up for a special occasion, or worn casually with jeans and a favorite tee.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Bust - 32 (33½, 35, 36½, 38, 40½, 42)(43½, 45, 46½, 48, 49½, 51)“ based on twice the back measurement. Fronts open at center 1½ - 2”.
Intended to be worn with 0-2” of ease. Size shown is 38, worn with 0” of ease.
Length - 21½ (22, 22, 22, 22½, 22½, 23)(23, 23, 23½, 23½, 24, 24)”.
YARN: 1140 (1195, 1215, 1250, 1310, 1355, 1430)(1490, 1535, 1610, 1665, 1725, 1770) yds DK weight wool or wool blend. Recommended yarn: Spirit Trail Fiberworks “Birte” (75% superwash merino wool, 15% cashmere,10% silk; 275yds/110g). 5 (5, 5, 5, 5, 5, 6)(6, 6, 6, 7, 7, 7) skeins. Sample shown in Pink Sands.
NEEDLES: U.S. size 5 (3.75mm) 32” circular needle. Circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of collar band stitches. Adjust needle size as needed to obtain correct gauge.
OTHER: Stitch holders, removable stitch markers, cable needle, extra needle for 3-needle bind off, tapestry needle.
GAUGE: 22 sts/32 rows = 4” in stockinette, blocked.
Cable Chart (16 sts) = 2” wide, lightly blocked.
SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate. Techniques include long tail cast on, 3-needle bind off, short row shaping, m1 increases, decreases, cables, and picking up stitches.
CONSTRUCTION: The fronts and back are knit separately from the bottom up and the shoulders are shaped with short rows and seamed with 3-needle bind off. Stitches are picked up for the sleeves and knit flat to the cuff, with the caps shaped with short rows. The sides and underarms are seamed, and stitches are picked up for the collar band.
