From the 21st series of Weldons Practical Crochet (1894), this is the description of Miriam, doll dressed in crochet:
Those who prefer crochet to knitting will be pleased with the doll here represented; her dress and hat are worked with electric blue single Berlin wool of which 3 ozs. are required, and under her dress she wears a petticoat and a combination crocheted with 2 ozs. of white Peacock fingering. A small bone crochet needle and also a larger one must be procured, and four pearl buttons are necessary to fasten the dress, and a little silk wire to stiffen the brim of the hat. The dress measures 14 inches deep and is suited to a doll of 18 or 19 inches in height.
