When I purchased a beautiful skein of Bulky weight 100% lambswool yarn, I was determined to use it all to make a hat … so that was my inspiration for coming up with this fun flap hat.

To make the ribbing a little more interesting, I employed the Garter Rib Stitch, which incorporates a subtle line of garter stitch in the rib. Easy peasy and fun!

The hat is made in what I call the Mirror Twist Cable stitch, which I suppose is a real cable stitch except you don’t need to pull out your cable needle to hold the stitches. You make the cable by knitting stitches out of sequence. Also easy peasy and fun!

The flap adds a bit of silliness and style to the composition and the point on that flap was just crying out to me, “Marcia!!! Make me a tassel! Make me a tassel!”

So I did.

Gee I had fun designing and making this hat. When I put it on my model head, it made me smile. When I put it on my old lady grandmother head (ME!), it made my husband smile (not exactly sure what that meant and I didn’t ask!). Anyway, I hope you’ll have fun making this hat for somebody who will have fun wearing it.

As with all my designs, please contact me at the Email address listed on the pattern if you have any questions as you work up my design. I want you to have a great time and end up with a terrific flap hat.

Thank you!
