Mirry Dancers Yoked Pullover
by Cheryl Burke
For the colorwork pattern in this yoked pullover, Cheryl Burke drew upon her fascination with the natural light displays in high-latitude skies, called “aurora borealis” or “northern lights.” Known as mirry dancers in Shetland dialect, these light displays are famously spectacular in the Shetland Islands. Like the colors in the sky, Cheryl’s unexpected color combinations form a large-scale design in a small rhythmic pattern. Placed around the yoke of a dark seamless pullover, with accents at the cuffs and hem, the effect is luminous bursts of color shooting through the dark.
