Perfect fit for this lovely tailored cardigan, made with wool in a beautiful shade chosen by my sweet niece Ingrid, of 9 years. For a long time I had wanted to make myself a tailored cardigan based on a favorite jacket. And when I want to make myself something tailored it has to be knitted, as I’m such a lousy seamstress!
It was great fun shaping the hips, waist and bust-line of this easy-to-wear, feminine and relaxed cardigan. I omitted the buttons intentedly, as I wanted to have the possibilities of wearing it open, closed with a silk ribbon, a brooch or a pin.
The construction of this cardigan follows the “classic school” - it is knitted in separate pieces for back, fronts and sleeves and then seamed together. The sleeves are made by working the cuffs sideways, and stiches are picked up to work the rest of sleeve bottom-up. Stiches are picked up for the manadarin-collar that folds to the back. All the shapings are made towards the twisted stich-pattern. This is easily achieved by k2tog, sl1k1psso and m1l/m1r. There are no difficult stiches in the pattern.
I give you all measurements in both cm’s and inches.
About sizing: If you want your cardi to be worn open you do not need positive ease, if you want to set in buttons I advise to count for some ease.
About the wool. There are many yarns at the market knitting up to the same gauge. If you substitute the Sportwool for another wool I recommend that you might steam-iron it as the hems and fronts need to be blocked using this method.
