Miss Philpot's Shawl
Discontinued.
This digital pattern is no longer available online.
In the early 1800s, Miss Elizabeth Philpot was an amateur paleontologist who collected fossils from the Lyme Regis area in England. She had extensive knowledge of fossil fish and rubbed shoulders with the famous male paleontologists of the day.
This cozy crescent shawl makes use of stitch patterns published in a Victorian knitting manual during Miss Philpot’s lifetime. Knit up this shawl and wrap it around you on a cool evening at the beach while searching for fossils or enjoying the sunset.
Miss Philpot’s shawl is knit from the top down and begins with a garter tab cast on, followed by four sections including garter stitch, eyelets, and basic one colour brioche.
