A year ago, just before Christmas, a former colleague was diagnosed with cancer and had to have a kidney removed. A year later, his fight against the disease is certainly not over but he is more determined and combative than ever. It was at his request that I designed “Mr. Bean”: a small kawaii kidney amigurumi.
“Sweeter than the ugly kidney that hurt him so much,” he said to me and somehow, a way for him to “turn the page with humor” and to engage in the next step of his fight. On my side, designing this model allowed me to show him all my affection and support. The years had separated us, we could have feared that the disease too, but it is with courage that he decided to share his fight with everyone and it is with admiration and friendship that we all support him. And now, Mr.Bean too;)
Beyond our history, I am happy to make this model available to all those who would like to make a Mr Bean for a friend or loved one affected by the disease. I am convinced that all the proofs of affection, whatever they are, are as many sources of comfort and strength on the path of healing.
