This pattern is a fun way to learn basic miter techniques and use up smaller quantities of yarn. Two different yarns are used - a heavy worsted weight yarn for the center panel and crown and a bulky slub yarn for the brim. The original pattern called for Classic Elite MONTERA for the center panel and crown which is now discontinued so I’ve suggested several substitutes that support and enhance the integrity of the design. I use a variety of textured bulky yarns for the brim. I use the brim to showcase hand-spun and hand-dyed boucle and slub yarns that I prepare myself or buy online from other artisans.

The pattern is written in two finished sizes: 22”/56cm and 23.5”/60cm.

Gauge:
Mitered squares and crown (#9/5.5mm needles) 18 sts and 26 rows per 4”/46cm.

Brim (#10/6.0mm needles) 12 sts and 14 rows per 4”/46cm.
