Mitten-Eating Snake Scarf
This friendly snake will keep a young person’s neck warm and, when not in use, will swallow gloves or mittens for safe-keeping! I first designed this for my son (now 30), when he was 6 yrs. old and kept losing his mittens. It got handed down, and each of his younger sisters wore it for years, until it eventually went off to college with one of them. The pattern had never been written down, though.
Now, with excellent tech editing and pattern testing by Joyce Lewis, the pattern is available, to make staying warm FUN for a whole new generation of snake-lovers.
The pattern is rated Easy (but not Beginner), and uses US Crochet Terminology. Clear close-up photos walk the crocheter through the process of carrying yarns on the inside of the work for striping, and on the sculptural stitches of the facial features.
Here are the amounts of the different colors of Amherst used to make the sample:
2 balls Color A (dark), Jungle Green; 1 ball Color B (light), Sweet Pea; approximately 30 yds Color C, Burgundy; approximately 20 yds Color D, White; and 5 yds of Black
