Mitten, Knitted in Quaker Stitch
by Weldons
From Weldon’s Practical Knitter, Eighth Series, p 10. Illustration p 13. Originally published circa 1888.
For a gentleman, Scotch fingering wool and size 15 needles are suggested. If the needle sizes given are U.K. sizes in this conversion chart, then the modern equivalent would be US 00, 1.75 mm. For a lady, Andalusian wool and size 17 needles are suggested, that is, modern US 000, 1.5 mm.
For the wrist ribbing, 56 sts are cast on. These are fingerless mittens.
