“I got the idea for these mittens from the 1985 edition of Hugur og hönd, the annual magazine published by The Icelandic Handicrafts Association. In it, I found a small photo showing wristwarmers knit with a lace pattern similar to the one used in these mittens. The photo’s caption said that the wristwarmers were knit in 1970, copying ones knit in the first half of the 20th century. The lace pattern is called rósastrengsprjón in Icelandic.
