Mix and Match Nordic Hat
Finished circumference: 21 1/2” 54.5 cm
Here is a basic knit hat, with multiple options. Make it with or without earflaps, with dancing figures or a bold Nordic star.
The earflap ties can be simple I-cord or the more colorful and unusual braided cord.
The simplest version of the hat knits up in less than a day; the more fanciful versions don’t take much longer.
The given quantity of yarn is enough to make all 3 versions of the hat shown above, provided a different color is used as the main color (MC) for each version:
For the Dancing Granny Hat--Aran MC
For the Star Hat--Blue Blood Red MC
For the plain hat-- Oregano MC
A previous version of this pattern was published in my book “The Knitting Man(ual)”. The pattern has been updated here for improved fit.
Notes:
There is an error in the braiding instructions as published in “The Knitting Manual”. On page 56, directions should read “Repeat steps 2 and 3 until braid is desired length.”
The error has been corrected for the pdf version of the pattern.
