Mmm Beanie is full Mini Mosaic Mitre squares and that was just too much of a mouthful … so Mmm it is.

Deceptively easy. You are NOT making lots of little squares and joining them together. This beanie is knit in the round using the mosaic style whereby you are only working with one colour at a time.

The hardest thing you’ll be doing is deciding on which colours to use.

Working in the round, you will work a 3 stitch broken rib to form the brim and then using a clear combination of knits, purls and slip stitches you will build a beautiful beanie full of squares.

Written in full with handy progress check boxes, so you can keep a visual track of where you are. There are also reference charts.

I have formatted this pattern in such a way that you should only need to print page 3 & 4 (double sided).

You will find reference charts on page 5.

Saving the planet one unprinted page at a time.

Skills used …

Long tail cast on. Knit and purl stitches. Slip stitches. Decreasing (knit two together).

You will need the following …

  • DK or Light Worsted yarn : Colour A 45g and Colour B 35g (or colour B could be a 5 x minis/scraps at approx 7g each.
  • 3.5mm & 4mm* (US 6) 16 inch (40 cm) circulars
  • 4mm* (US 6) dpns.
  • BOR marker.
  • Tapestry needle (for closing the crown and sewing those dreaded ends in).

(Or size required to obtain gauge).

Gauge and Size …

4mm : 20 stitches and 28 rows (4 inch / 10 cm stocking stitch in the round).

Measurements unblocked and laid flat:

  • Brim ~ 8 inches (20 cm)
  • Body ~ 8.5 inches (21.5)
  • Height ~ 8.5 inches (23 cm)

The stitch pattern allows for plenty of stretch so don’y panic if you think it’s looking a little smaller than you’d expect to start with.

Written for one size (teen to adult) this can easily be adapted and made smaller or larger by adjusting body stitch count by 8. I’m always available by DM on Insta and Facebook

I can’t wait to see your beanie so please do be sure to start a project page or tag me on Instagram and Facebook (#mmmbeanie @beanieboat).
