Baby it’s cold outside!! While spending a week in NY during a record cold spell, I designed this mock-cable dress, leggings, and scarf. When I returned home, Addy (my design consultant) informed me it needed a headband as well, so I knitted up a headband to match. The dress is knit from the bottom up, and uses a simple 4-row repeating pattern for the cable. A band of the cable also accentuates the sleeves and leggings. The cable pattern is repeated in the scarf, and the headband is a simple stockinette band with garter trim on both sides.

This pattern was designed for a 14” or 15” baby doll such as American Girl Bitty Baby®, Corolle Mon Bebe Classique®, Baby Stella®, or a Madame Alexander® 14” doll. If you are knitting for Baby Stella®, take a few rows out for the arms as her arms are shorter. If you are knitting for Madame Alexander® you may want to do the entire outfit with size 3 needles, as she is a little thinner. I would also take about 10 rows off the headband, as her head is considerably smaller than the other dolls listed.

This pattern, like most of my designs, is done with size 3 and size 5 straight needles and has minimal seaming. I always cast on with size 3 because it makes the cast on row neater. This pattern was done with Bernat Softee Baby yarn, but any dk weight yarn will work. I had enough left over to make a sweater and headband for an infant, so I am estimating I used less than 400 yards for the whole outfit.
