There are plenty of crochet patterns for mice already in existence. However, I wanted to make one which is supposed to be more anatomically accurate. For this reason, there is a lot of shaping in this pattern, to form the different body parts.

Supplies:
• DK yarn in light pink, white and red (option 1) or light pink, black and grey (option 2), less than 50g of each.
• Yarn needle
• Small amount of stuffing
Final measurements: The body is 9cm long, and the tail adds another 9cm.

Laboratory mice of the species Mus musculus are the most commonly used mammalian research model, having been used since the 16th Century. Mice are closely related to humans, which makes them useful models of human disease. They are also easy to take care of and breed quickly.

This pattern details colour choices for the two most commonly used laboratory strains, “BALB/c”, an albino with white fur and red eyes, and “C57BL/6” which have a dark brown, nearly black coat and black eyes (this pattern uses dark grey because otherwise the eyes will not show).

The perfect pet for the geeky scientist in your life.
