MODERN LOVE is a wonderful single-evening or one-afternoon project!

A geometrically-themed scarf in which can be found hints of the letter “V” (for “valentine,” perhaps?) and drop(let) shapes (tears of joy?), this pattern offers several finishing options for different looks, and it is knit flat (in one piece, excluding add-ons).

Rapid, striking results are further enhanced by adding a dramatic scarf pendant such as the silver-tone Pendulum Bobble slide (also pictured).

The seeming complexity of the lacy openwork, which varies in size by section, is actually simple to execute with a combination of different needle sizes, and row-by-row narrative instructions are provided.

The various stitch patterns (as well as the instructions for the optional add-on shapes) are easily memorized and enjoyable to knit.

Whether you make this for yourself or someone else, it will become a treasured piece worn often (not just when Cupid’s arrows begin to fly) …

NOTE: Although this pattern (Modern Love) itself is free, the materials used (that is, two skeins of yarn, see http://www.ravelry.com/yarns/library/south-west-trading-c... and scarf pendant) are not, of course. However, another pattern of mine, Dae’s Valentine, http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/daes-valentine---..., also published by YarnZone.com, is available for purchase as a kit and contains the exact type and amount of yarn required by this pattern (Modern Love), as well as a scarf pendant. Kits are available in knitter’s choice of one skein of turquoise and one skein of either black, turquoise (2nd skein), salmon, or purple, as well as one skein of red and one skein of purple.

Pattern Page Link Note (June 2017): Site redesign resulted in new page that requires user to state name of free pattern requested and provide e-mail address for PDF delivery.
