Modern Zebra Ruffle Shawl
This is a modern version of my very first design at Ravelry. The new shawl has all the advantages of the first model, you can wear it reversed, tucked, folded in SO many ways. But the huge difference is a better pattern and a new (and easier) way of integrating the ruffle into the knitting.
Imagine this shawl knit up in your favorite color combination:) Use 2 (or more) solid colors, 1 solid/1 variegated or maybe only 1 multi-colored yarn….
There are SO many possibilities working this shawl to a perfect accessory to cheer up your autumn and winter days:))
Design and construction
This triangular shawl is worked side-ways from tip to tip. The ruffle at the triangular side of the shawl is integrated in the knitting using simple short-rows. The stripe-pattern of the shawl is as beautiful at the RS as at the WS - meaning that you can reverse it and take advantage of the two sides. The knitting is easy and quite addictive:)
Size
The wingspan of the sample is 106cm/41.75”. You can work it to desired measurements. Keep in mind that you need to count for more yarn if increasing the size.
Materials
Yarn: I used Isagers ”Alpaca 2” to work the shawl. This light fingering weight yarn of 50% alpaca/50% merino comes in skeins of 50gr/1.76oz and and 250meters/273yards. If working according to the sample you need 2 skeins of black, 1 skein of each of the contrasting colors beige, grey and mustard. If using 2 different colors you will need approximately 300meters/327yards of each color. Needles: You need to choose needle size to obtain gauge! I used a pair of straight needles, 3mm/US2.5 to start the shawl, and changed to a circular needle 3mm/US2.5 when there were too many sts on the needle. Notions: a removable stitch-marker. Blunt tapestry needle and blocking tools.
Gauge
26 sts and 44 rows of garter = 10x10cm/4x4”
The pattern
The pattern gives full written row-by-row instructions for the set up rows, the increase section, the hight at spine section, the decrease sections. As well as charts for all sections (except for the set-up-rows). There is a schematic.
