Molden
NB: VAT or state tax will be applied to the purchase price during the paypal transaction where relevant.
Named for the Molden mountain in the region of Sogn og Fjordane in Norway, this simple design is easy enough for the novice (uses a simplified version of short rows that even a beginner can master) yet interesting enough for the experienced knitter. The dance of color and texture will make selecting yarn for the project almost as pleasurable as knitting and wearing it; it is easy to memorize (no row stitch counts to obsess about!) and easy to modify.
The basic shape (see photo) and size provides flexibility for use as a smaller-sized shoulder wrap or a neck scarf, and is easily adaptable for different weights and amounts of yarn.
♥ Notice that the MC is used on every stitch of the wrap: it is alternately held together with CC1 or CC2.
♥ CC2 is well-suited for gradients; this can be achieved either with a single gradient skein, or by piecing together a number of skeins (mini skeins work great as does stash busting!) to make your own gradient transitions.
♥ The MC may be omitted by using heavier weight CC1 and CC2 (such as sport or dk).
Gauge is not terribly important, the main thing is to find the right needle size for yarn you select and to keep in mind yarn amounts will vary, depending on gauge.
Approximate Yarn Requirements: MC = 770 yds; CC1 = 450 yds; CC2 = 390 yds Since the MC can range from a lace to a sport-weight yarn, yardage is flexible.
Supplies: 2 stitch markers (one to mark the increases and one to mark the wrap & turn) and a tapestry needle (for weaving in ends) are recommended.
Techniques: cast on, knit, purl, increase, bind off, and a very simple version of wrap and turn for short rows (instructions provided)
Cast on, knit, and enjoy!
TUSEN TAKK! A “thousand thanks” to my fabulous test knitters: Foxsan, Judithio, Kittyhook, Skwrd50, and Theamidnight.
