Molly's Maine Mitts
Pattern Inspiration:
This pattern was inspired by and designed for my dear friend Molly. She’s a park ranger who has lived in so many different places, but seems to always end up back in Maine. She asked for some super cozy mitts that would keep her extra warm in those long, cold Maine winters. I also chose the tree motifs to represent the state nickname, The Pine Tree State. Want to make a matching set? Check out the Molly’s Maine Beanie and Cowl, also available in my shops!
Basic Information:
Pattern is written in US crochet terms.
Pattern is written for three sizes that will fit most older children and adults. The circumference of the mitts can be adjusted using a repeat of 6 stitches.
Yarn: Sport weight (CYC weight 2). Approximately 150-180 yards, depending on size. I used approximately 160 yards of Me and Ewe Golden Ewe Sport (100% SW merino, 328 yards/100g) in the color Teddy Bear Brown for my sample.
Hook: 3.5mm, or size needed to meet gauge.
Finished size: Laying flat, the mitts measure approximately: Size S: 3” wide across the fingers, 3” wide across the ribbing. Size M: 3.5” wide across the fingers, 3.25” wide across the ribbing. Size L: 4” wide across the fingers, 3.75” wide across the ribbing. All sizes: 6.5” tall.
Gauge: 22 sts by 18 rows = 4”by 4” in the main mitts pattern - see swatch instructions on page 4. Gauge is measured after blocking.
