Momma's Gilet
This pattern is written precisely as I made my Momma’s Gilet, pictured.
The garment is made entirely from puff stitch and features intermediate/advanced crochet techniques.
Row counts are included to achieve the same length to underarm, approx 14” ( 36cm ), and the same depth of armholes 10 - 11” ( 25.5 - 28cm ), which gives a finished garment length of
24 - 25” ( 61 -64cm ).
Although the length can be adjusted to suit your needs, please bear in mind that each full width row, approx 42” (107cm ), will require an additional 30g of yarn (approx).
I used two ends of aran weight yarn - similar to Caron Cakes 80% acrylic 20% wool - held together to create a bulky/chunky yarn.
Yarn that comes in 400g balls is ideal for this project, which takes between 600g - 700g to complete.
To make the gilet pictured, which measures 42” x 24” long, you will need
Stylecraft Special Aran with Wool, 400g balls - yardage 892yds/816m.
2 x 400g balls.
Cream Shade - Aran (3005)
Deep red Shade - Garnet (3345)
As an alternative, Sirdar Hayfield Bonus Aran with Wool 400g balls - Yardage - 920yds/840m.
You will need 2 x 400g balls.
For yarn substitution, always check gauge and please look at yardage compared to weight, more yards per 100g = finer yarn. Less yards per 100g = thicker yarn.
