Mom's Favorite Baby Blanket
You’re going to love this baby blanket! The original “inspiration” blanket was my mom’s favorite baby blanket. She kept that pattern for decades and made it whenever there was a new baby in the family! In Jan. 2016, she started to make one of these blankets for my first grandchild who was due in June, but sadly, my mom passed away the next month, leaving the blanket partially done. I decided that I owed it to my mom to finish the blanket for her and that’s exactly what I did!
My mom’s favorite blanket was worked in 7 strips with 19 curved motifs in each strip. The strips had to be sewn together before the edging was added. This made for lots of additional work. Plus there were so many ends to weave in!!!
After finishing the blanket that my mom started, I set out to “redesign” my mom’s favorite baby blanket. This blanket is worked in rows instead of strips, with 1/7 as many ends to weave in and NO seaming! I hope you like it as much as I do!
The blanket shown is made with 2 skeins of white, plus 1 skein each of pink, blue, yellow and green in Snuggly Wuggly yarn (available at Michaels stores in the US). Get creative and make your baby blanket in whatever colors you choose!
Any light weight/DK weight yarn can be substituted for the Loops & Threads Snuggly Wuggly yarn. The pattern will also work just fine if you’d like to use worsted weight yarn to make an afghan size instead of a baby blanket.
If you’d like to make your blanket larger or smaller, you can always work more or less motifs in width and more or less sections of motifs in height (the pattern includes basic instructions for adjusting the size).
There are over 90 step-by-step photos in this pattern to help YOU be successful in crocheting it! With your pattern purchase, you’ll receive 2 pdf files: one with 30 pages, including the step-by-step photos and the other with only 14 pages, without the step-by-step photos (for printing, to help you conserve ink/toner!).
The pattern is written for right-handed and left-handed crocheters. It includes charts for both hands, as well.
The gauge for this blanket is:
1 Motif (in Section 1 of Motifs) = 4 ¼” wide x 2 ½” high
1 Motif (in Sections 2-19 of Motifs) = 4 ¼” wide x 2 ¼” high
I’d like to thank the pattern testers of this baby blanket. They did an awesome job in testing this pattern, as well as making fabulous suggestions for improving it to make it easier to follow!
