I knit this scarf for my mom, “Queen of the Jigsaw Puzzles”!

I’d crocheted a bunch of scarves using the mosaic overlay technique and was eager to try a similar technique in knitting.

I found plenty of mosaic knitting resources, but none were mosaic overlay knitting, so I did some experimenting and found a way that seems to work.

I’ve detailed the technique in an appendix at the end of the pattern.

Posting this pattern here so Mom can share it with the needlework group she attends.

Love you, Mom!

P.S. For anyone who’d like to make their own charts, I’ve shared the code I use on GitHub here:
https://krubal3.github.io/MosaicOverlayCharts/

I wrote the code just for my own use, so I’m sure it contains some bugs.  If you’re okay with that, you’re welcome to give it a try.  Choose the type of overlay chart you’d like to make from the dropdown: garter, stockinette, crochet (RS only), crochet (back and forth). Click a square on the canvas to toggle it between light and dark.  I added some help buttons ? that you can click for more info on other features.

To save a project, select everything in the “instructions” textbox, copy it, and save that text somewhere.  To restore a project, copy the text from wherever you saved it, select everything in the “instructions” textbox, and paste (overwriting what was there).  Then click import.
