l’ve designed and knitted various versions of this Mongolia Beanie, for family members who enjoy Mongolian heritage.
Featuring the flying wind horse national emblem of Mongolia, this version is straightforward to knit if you are familiar with stranded colourwork knitting techniques. Ideal for anyone fortunate enough to have visited that country, or for armchair explorers!

The instructions are to knit an adult unisex hat with negative ease, with suggestions for smaller needles to make a smaller version. The larger hat measures 20” circumference around the brim, and will stretch to fit most larger heads. Height from centre of crown to brim, is 8”

The smaller version measures 19” circumference and height from centre crown to brim is 7 1/2”

Larger beanie uses 2.50 and 2.75mm circular needles
Smaller version uses 2.25 and 2.50mm needles.

Yarn used is Jamieson & Smith 2 ply Jumper Weight, one 25g ball in each of three colours: dark brown, gold and royal blue. You can of course use any similar 4ply yarn.

Gauge: 28 stitches and 36 rows over 4” over stranded colourwork on 2.75mm needles
